Litratong Pinoy #21: Mithi

Minsan noong aking kabataan,

Hiningi ko kay Lola ang isang palamuti,

Isang diamanteng krus na noon pa’y minimithi,

Ngunit sabi nya’y, “tsaka na at bata ka pa.”

At noong aking ika-30 kaarawan,

Sa isang pulang sisidlan,

Aking nasilayan ang palamuting ninanais.

At ngayo’y nakasabit na sya sa aking leeg.

Maraming salamat po, Lola!

Something Old

Gone

The wind one morning
carried Your voice to me;
but when I turned my head
  it was gone.

Looking up one night
a sparkling Light caught my eye;
but when I turned my head
  it was gone.

A fragrance on the breeze
enchanted both heart and mind;
but when I turned my head
  it was gone.

Until at last
the thought came to me:
  HE is gone.

Withering...

Sabbatical: I’m Taking A Recess

Take time to think; it is the source of power.
Take time to need; it is the foundation of wisdom.

Take time to play; it is the secret of staying young.
Take time to be quiet; it is the opportunity to seek thy soul.

Take time to be aware; it is the opportunity to help others.
Take time to love and be loved; it is God’s greatest gift.

Take time to laugh; it is the music of the soul.
Take time to be friendly; it is the road to happiness.

Take time to dream; it is what the future is made of.
Take time to meditate; it is the greatest power on earth.

So, I’m taking my time off and hope to see you all in a little while…

I Meet Eye To Eye With God

Summer Memories

I remember summer days in the province,

When I would stroll along the sandy beach,

And watch the dancing sun as it rises,

With an ice candy in one hand and the other.

What fond memories,

Happy thoughts of my precious childhood…

The Sunset

Where the ocean meets the sky,
When the day comes to its end,
All eyes soak up the beautiful site
Of the horizon’s colorful blend.

Indescribable colors melt together,
Capturing the attention of you,
Contaminating the majestic sky
With its lovely, colorful hue.

Priceless is this picture,
Impossible to clone.
Such original designs,
Each night has its own.

Swallowed up by the horizon,
The sun slowly fades away.
Disappearing into the night,
Few of the lingering colors stay.

In a blink of an eye,
The colors dissolve,
Overcome by the sky’s darkness.
And the stars, as they evolve.

Sunset

Extraordinarily Beautiful

Life changes fast.

Life changes in the instant.

You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.

The question of self-pity.

The Year of Magical Thinking

I started reading this book Friday night and finished it the next day. It’s wonderful from start to finish, and emotionally moving. I cried and then, I smiled. It’s amazingly good and I was left wanting more…

Great Love

There is a love that begins in the head, and goes down to the heart, and grows slowly; but it lasts till death, and asks less than it gives. There is another love, that blots out wisdom, that is sweet with the sweetness of life and hitter with the bitterness of death, lasting for an hour, but it is worth having lived a whole life for that hour.

So, to my dearly departed Lolo and my beloved Lola. Cheers to your undying love and devotion…
