Extraordinarily Beautiful

Life changes fast.

Life changes in the instant.

You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.

The question of self-pity.

-Joan Didion-

The Year of Magical Thinking

I started reading this book Friday night and finished it the next day. It’s wonderful from start to finish, and emotionally moving. I cried and then, I smiled. It’s amazingly good and I was left wanting more…

  1. Nell, so true… life is so fleeting. Better enjoy it (even with all the changes) and never waste time wallowing.

thank you, keith. i’d really recommend this book to anyone. it’s sad and yet it’s heartwarming. funny how after reading it, i went up to my mom’s room, watched her sleep and then gave her a kiss. it makes us realize that the family we have is the ultimate gift there is in this lifetime. thanks for the kind comment and God bless 😀

  2. nell, i do think that life is what we make it…what we choose it to be. it is beautiful yet too short. and i agree with keith (gosh i really do!) that we should never waste time wallowing. we shouldn’t dwell too much on the what should haves and what could have beens and problems. i know that’s easier said than done but if we just take a moment to ask ourselves, “what do i want?” when things don’t seem to go our way, the answer could actually be the key or the first step towards a better and happier life. *sigh* 🙂 hugs!

tama ka weng, life is too short kaya we better make the most of it. but then syempre, tao lang din tayo and we’re emotional being. so di maiwasan ang mag-emote minsan, hehehe. the secret to a happy life is love — love for family, friends, mankind etc. where there is love, there’s always peace and happiness. dba? thanks so much for your kind comment, mwaaah 😀

  3. gosh nell, i have this book on my nightstand! i haven’t read it, though (mas inuuna ko kasi yung mga mundane reads that i have to finish) because i was reserving it for a time when i can really sit down and take it all in.

joan didion is one of my fave ever writers. the way she writes her prose – beautiful! i was introduced to her collection of essays by my creative writing professor (and mentor) in the late 90s and, from that time, i strove to adapt her writing style (as if!, haha!).

i’m glad you loved this book. i was expecting it to be good. at least now, i have proof. 😀

hello meeya, read it when you get a chance. it’s absolutely beautiful! anyone who has experience loss in there lives would find this book truly inspiring, promise! how i wish i’ve found joan didions writing earlier in life (like you). kaya basahin mo na hah, and then tell me what you think about it. take care dear and talk to you soon 😉
