Life changes fast.
Life changes in the instant.
You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.
The question of self-pity.
-Joan Didion-
I started reading this book Friday night and finished it the next day. It’s wonderful from start to finish, and emotionally moving. I cried and then, I smiled. It’s amazingly good and I was left wanting more…
Nell, so true… life is so fleeting. Better enjoy it (even with all the changes) and never waste time wallowing.
nell, i do think that life is what we make it…what we choose it to be. it is beautiful yet too short. and i agree with keith (gosh i really do!) that we should never waste time wallowing. we shouldn’t dwell too much on the what should haves and what could have beens and problems. i know that’s easier said than done but if we just take a moment to ask ourselves, “what do i want?” when things don’t seem to go our way, the answer could actually be the key or the first step towards a better and happier life. *sigh* 🙂 hugs!
hmmm… looks like a must read book for everyone 🙂
gosh nell, i have this book on my nightstand! i haven’t read it, though (mas inuuna ko kasi yung mga mundane reads that i have to finish) because i was reserving it for a time when i can really sit down and take it all in.
joan didion is one of my fave ever writers. the way she writes her prose – beautiful! i was introduced to her collection of essays by my creative writing professor (and mentor) in the late 90s and, from that time, i strove to adapt her writing style (as if!, haha!).
i’m glad you loved this book. i was expecting it to be good. at least now, i have proof. 😀
