Mom turned 55 last August 29th, this time she wasn’t embarrassed to tell people her age. Why a change of mind, you ask? Praised be to Oprah’s words of wisdom. Ever since Mom saw this episode where she says “Age is just a number!” All of a sudden, Mom wasn’t particular at all of her age. Oprah sure knows what she’s saying…
Anyhow, we were supposed to surprised Mom for her birthday. We made an online order for a dozen pink roses to be delivered on the 29th. We even bought her stuff from her last years christmas wish list. Reservations we’re made again at Papillon Restaurant in Fremont to celebrate this joyous occassion.
Everything was in place and pushing thru as planned. Till that darn flower company delivered the bouquet a day early. Yes! The flowers came on the 28th and not on the 29th, like it said on the confirmation receipt. Grrrrr! To my surprise, Mom called me at the office to say thank you.
” Thanks for what Mom? ” I said on the phone.
” Dont lie anymore, son. Thanks for sending me a lovely flower arrangement. ” she said.
I just had to call the 1-800 number for the flower company, and made my not-so-happy comments known to them. I was offered a refund, for the inconvenience. But I’d rather not, I took a store credit instead. So there goes our ruined surprise! But in fairness, Mom’s birthday ended well. We had a wonderful time, and still made her teary eyed.
